The View from York Minster. York Minster is a cathedral in York, England and is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe, and is home to the Archbishop of York (the second highest position in the Church of England), a title currently held by John Sentamu. he formal title of York Minster is “The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of St Peter in York”. The title “minster” is attributed to churches established in the Anglo-Saxon period as missionary teaching churches, and serves now as an honorific title. The Minster was completed and then consecrated in 1472.Visitors are invited to climb to the very top of the Minster’s central tower, which stands at over 230ft high – thus making it the highest point in York, and includes 275 steps – the vast majority of which are in two separate spiral staircases. Once at the summit one experiences a spectacular 360° view of the City of York, as well as its surrounding environs. During the climb you come in close proximity to many examples of 14th century architecture including the medieval pinnacles, flying buttresses. and gargoyles Within this photography, you can see the West Wing of the Minster,  whilst in the background you can clearly make out the Yorkshire Wheel aka the York Eye, before making out the vast grass lands of the Yorkshire Dales.
